Preventing our BCCB bank from outsiders

BCCB Bank President Elections are over few weeks back. When we stop and review what has happened in this last two months is, we have got the first women President for this bank in last 90 years for which we all members of this catholic society are proud. Yeah! This feeling actually makes all of us proud, but when we think much deeper, then we understand at what cost??. The History of Catholics in Vasai deciding our own destiny is gone, now someone else will decide our and our bank’s future.

Now you must be thinking what we can do, I would like to inform you well in advance you cannot do anything now, as we elected our directors and few of them sold their souls & our faith, like judeas sold Christ for a few dollars……

How can we decrease the impact of an outsider onto this bank is what we can really do now…. few given below would be my personal views on this

Gather youths around you, who are also hurt as you and me are

Organize KTS (Knowledge Transfer Sessions) for youth and share knowledge about banking, reading a balance sheet, terms used in banking etc. As without knowledge of any area you cannot ask the right questions to the authorities.

Organize a general meeting of the all the share holders in your parish and call the director elected in your area, give him the agenda of the meeting to him in advance. (or else in the meeting he would say “ I am not prepared, like a politician”)
Give him 10 minutes to talk to all share holders on his vision to take this bank forward, what he will be doing in next one year, then all you youths can share with him what is you vision. Then synergize the points and set agenda for next one year followed by a review in every 6 months.

To get more transparency in the system Reserve Bank of India has asked these institutions to publish the financials of the bank every month, ask your director to raise this in board meeting & get this implemented and made public every quarter, as then we need not wait for 365 days to get this details, this will keep the pressure on the system…

Also suggest your Director to raise a point in the board meeting to draft a Vision statement, a Mission statement for this bank, which it still lacks from last 90 year. Set the goals for next 1 yrs for this bank and then circulate to all share holders, on that basis we can review their work in the AGM.


If this is done by all youths in each parish, all 23 board members will be under pressure to work, this will prevent the impact of an outsider on our bank.

There are lots more points to keep a check and avoid this is future, will post once these are executed.

In the light of frequent callous and inhuman act of communal violence against the Christians and Muslims by the Hindu Fundamentalist groups like the BJP, RSS, VHP and the Bajarang Dal, the veteran journalist Karan Thapar asks, 'who is a real Hindu?' in his column 'Sunday Sentiments' in Hindustan Times. Dated: 31/08/08."DOES THE VHP have the right to speak for you or I? Do they reflect our views? Do we endorse their behaviour? They call themselves the Vishwa Hindu Parishad, but who says they represent all of us"? Asks Karan Thapar.He starts with the question of conversion saying, "I imagine there are hundreds of millions of Hindus who are peaceful, tolerant, devoted to their faith, but above all, happy to live alongside Muslims, Christians, Sikhs, Buddhists, Jains and Jews. If any one of us were to change our faith how does it affect the next man or woman? And even if that happens with inducements, it can only prove that the forsaken faith had a tenuous and shallow hold. So why do the VHP and its unruly storm troopers, the Bajrang Dal, froth at the mouth if you, I or our neighbours convert? What is it to do with them?""If I want to sell my soul — and trade in my present gods for a new lot — why shouldn't I? Even if the act diminishes me in your eyes, it's my right to do so". Says Thapar bluntly.Thapar argues that, 'if thousands or even millions of Dalits, who have been despised and ostracized for generations, choose to become Christian, Buddhist or Muslim, either to escape the discrimination of their Hindu faith or because some other has lured them with food and cash, it's their right. Arguably you may believe you should ask them to reconsider, although I would call that interference, but you certainly have no duty or right to stop them. In fact, I doubt if you are morally correct in even seeking to place obstacles in their way. The so-called Freedom of Religion Acts, which aim to do just that, are, in fact, tantamount to obstruction of conversion laws and therefore, at the very least, questionable.' "However, what's even worse is how the VHP responds to this matter. Periodically they resort to violence including out right murder. What happened to Graham Staines in Orissa was not unique. Like it happened again in Kandhamal. Apart from the utter and contemptible criminality of such behaviour, is this how we Hindus wish to behave? Is this how we want our faith defended? Is this how we want to be seen? I have no doubt the answer is no. An unequivocal, unchanging and ever lasting NO! The only problem is it can't be heard". Says Thapar appallingly. Giving a wake up call to all peace loving and tolerant Hindus Thapar says, "I therefore believe the time has come for the silent majority of Hindus — both those who ardently practice their faith as well as those who were born into it but may not be overtly religious or devout — to speak out. We cannot accept the desecration of churches, the burning to death of innocent caretakers of orphanages, the storming of Christian and Muslim hamlets even if these acts are allegedly done in defense of our faith. Indeed, they do not defend but shame Hinduism. That's my central point.I'm sorry but when I read that the VHP has ransacked and killed I'm not just embarrassed, I feel ashamed. Never of being Hindu but of what some Hindus do in our shared faith's name."

कॅथॉलिक बँकेच्या चेअरमन व व्हाइस चेअरमनपदासाठी बुधवारी झालेल्या बैठकीत परस्परांचे कट्टर राजकीय वैरी समजले जाणारे हे दोन्ही नेते एकत्र आले आणि त्यांच्या पाठिंब्याने सहकार, समविचारी आणि अपक्षांची युती झाली व बँकेच्या इतिहासात प्रथमच एका महिलेची चेअरमनपदी निवड झाली. हितेंद ठाकूर आणि विवेक पंडित यांच्या एकत्र येण्याने वसईचे राजकारण ढवळून निघाले असले तरी उभय नेत्यांनी सावध विधाने करत पुढील राजकीय वाटचालीत ही युती कायम राहीलच याची स्पष्ट ग्वाहीही दिलेली नाही. कॅथॉलिक बँकेवर कब्जा मिळवण्यासाठी काँग्रेससह सर्वच राजकीय पक्षांनी कंबर कसली होती. मात्र मतदारांनी कोणालाच स्पष्ट बहुमत न देता वसई विकास मंडळ पुरस्कृत समविचारी आणि अपक्षांच्या हाती सत्तेची चावी दिली. चेअरपनपदासाठी पंडित यांनी डॉमनिका डाबरे यांच्या नावाचा आग्रह धरला. डाबरे काँग्रेसच्या असल्या तरी त्या पंडितांच्या समर्थक मानल्या जातात. ठाकूर आणि पंडित यांच्या एकत्र येण्याने ठाणे जिल्ह्यातील राजकीय समीकरणे बदलण्याचे संकेत आहेत. ठाणे जिल्ह्यात विधानसभेच्या एकूण २४ जागा आहेत. पंडित सध्या कोणत्याच राजकीय पक्षात नाहीत तर ठाकूर यांनी बहुजन विकास आघाडीची स्थापना केली आहे. बँकेच्या निमित्ताने एकत्र आलेले हे दोन्ही नेते पुढील वषीर् होणाऱ्या विधानसभा निवडणुकीत एकत्र आल्यास राजकीयदृष्ट्या ते मोठे पाऊल असेल, असे राजकीय तज्ज्ञांचे मत आहे. उभय नेत्यांनीही यावर सावध पवित्रा घेतला आहे. बँकेच्या ठेवीदारांच्या हितासाठी आपण पुढे आलो असे सांगतानाच पंडितांशी राजकीय मतभेद असले तरी वसईच्या विकासासाठी त्यांच्यासोबत काम करण्याची इच्छा असल्याचे आमदार ठाकूर यांनी स्पष्ट करतानाच युती होईलच, असे नाही असेही स्पष्ट केले आहे. तर विवेक पंडित यांनी विरोधाच्या ठिकाणी विरोध केला जाईल असे सांगतानाच निवडणुकीच्या राजकारणात युती होईल की नाही हे माहीत नसल्याचे स्पष्ट करतानाच वसईत सहकाराचे युग सुरू झाल्याचे सूचक संकेत दिले आहेत.

The Bassien Catholic Bank Goes In The Hands Of Mafia.
Sir,
Ms. Dominica Dabre has become the first woman Chairman of the Bassein Catholic Bank in its 90 years' history! Can we rejoice over the fact? I, for one cannot. I sent her a message: "'Congrats' on saudebaji (Unholy Deal) with VasaiVikas!" There was a deal struck between Vasai Congress party to which Ms. Dominica belongs to, and the Vasai Vikas Mandal, a political party of the land-mafia group of Vasai-Virar area. This unholy alliance between two groups was crafted secretly by the following leaders: Mr. Michael Furtado, the Congress President, MLA Hitesh Thakur, President Vasai Vikas, Mr. Gilbert Mendonca, NCP, Bhayandar and Mr.. Vivek Pandit, ex-Shivsena District President. By taking their support she has brought the land-mafia and the developers-builders-lobby in the Catholic Community's Co-Operative Bank! As a part of the deal already the post of the Vice-Chairman is offered to Vasai Vikas Member, Mr. Gonsalo Touscano! He thanked Mr. Thakur publicly in the Directors' Board Meeting after his election! Was he aware of the presence of the picture of Fr. Monis, the founder of the bank in the same hall? May be, according to the
Sauda with the Congress Party after a half term (3 years) Vasai Vikas candidate will be the Chairman! Imagine the Bank going into the hands of Land-mafia and builders' lobby! The episode is shameful for the Catholic community and its clergy! Ms. Dominica is a high school teacher in Mumbai. We agree to women's empowerment but what cost?
Janata Dal was ready for a deal with Congress. Both had 6 members each. Equal strength. But Michael Furtado wanted first three years as chairman. He cannot be trusted taking into consideration the experience of betrayal in last term. Hence the deal did not go through. How is that now Mr. Michael is ready to sit aside to strike a deal with Vasai Congress? There is no clear-cut distinction between Vasai Congress and Vasai Vikas.

I sincerely appreciate your concern for catholiccommunity in Vasai but the most hurting thing is that even if, wecirculate your letter on the website nobody is going to learn or gainanything out of it except a few cultured people left in Vasai that toofor a span of small length. I understand this is quite difficult for youto take but the realities are quite harsh and I think we have literallylost everything out of our hands. Whenever, I look around my village Gass, my Taluka Vasai and my StateMaharashtra I find we are just tagged as Locals and we have no authorityor powers to exercise for the upliftment of our own society as locals.We live as slaves in the hands of few people called Mafias and themodern word is Politicians. Sorry to say Father but we live for money sometime, sometime for liquorand most importantly for the publicity or so called power of the Chair.We have forgotten the values and ethics of humanity. Dear & brave Michael Gonsalves,

It needs a lions heart & courage to stand firm & speak for the unholy & ungodly things happening around. I thank God for the courage He has put in your heart for TRUTH. Jesus & His disciples always stand for the TRUTH, no matter whatever the consequences may be.

Personally, I try to concentrate more in spiritual things & my knowledge is very limited about the politics in Vasai. But we all can smell what's going on. Compromising christian values, teachings etc for one's personnal gain (both sides) is really shameful. Now a days we see these happens almost everywhere. World say you WIN & I WIN.


This is what Jesus Christ predicted, what will happen in LAST DAYS. So called Christians will join hands with unbelievers / even Antichrist (Knowingly or unknowingly). Thanks God that our life is secured in His hands. I think of those comforting verses where Christ says, even your hair will not fall without your heavenly Fathers will. etc.

Keep awakening people & we should teach them Christian values & Biblical teaching. Christian cannot just behave like worldly people. We are Gods people, chosen people. Let's have awareness what we are in Christ.

Anyway, I like your courage to stand opposite of flow.

Hi Sachin, I agree with you that its indeed a BLACK DAY for all Catholics in Vasai today. Due to greed and selfish motives of few handful shameful catholic individuals, today our esteemed instituion like Catholic bank has fallen prey to these so called Leader (MAFIA). Its indeed more shameful that its our own catholic community is responsible for this downfall. Now more importantly,Getting forward from this. Can we have a discussion as how can we as a responsible vasaikar make a difference and avoid any more situation like this in future.

Don't you think Janta dal & Congress( being mature /alert group's) could have very well avoided this shameful incident of going the bank into hands ofLand Mafia's( according to you )?????? if at all these both group were so keen about Bank's future & not just thought of their own SELFISH motives.For my Knowledge, Was there no such talks or interaction between congress group& janta dal group about such & important issue...? We should know also that congress also put their kneel down in front of hitendra thakur which is his victory as entry in BCCB. Yes as Manu should have think seriously over it but in vein, now remote control is in the hands of H & NOT M2. Manu's intention was clear from first day that BBCB shouldn't go in the hands of Vasai Vikas that is why he is still there & always as a winner but now though he is a winner but really a defeated winner. Person like domnica/MichAel is really culprits who have sold their social ethics for ruling over the bank so i request them all if possible pls change the name of bank also as a '' VASAI VIKAS CATHOLIC CO-OPERATIVE BANK LTD ''.

' साऊथ इंडियन को-ऑपरेटिव्ह बँक' ९ ऑगस्ट २००४ रोजी बँक व्यवहारास अपात्र ठरली व त्यानंतर तब्बल चार वर्षं लोटल्यावर १ सप्टेंबर २००८ रोजी तिचे सारस्वत को-ऑपरेटिव्ह बँकेत विलिनीकरण करण्यात आले. साऊथ इंडियन को-ऑपरेटिव्ह बँक ८५ वर्षांपेक्षा जुनी बँक असल्याने ठेवीदारांनी निवृत्तीनंतर मिळालेली सुमारे पाच ते १० लाख रक्कम या बँकेत ठेवली होती. तसेच सहकारी गृहनिर्माण संस्थांनीही त्यांच्या 'रिर्झव्ह फंड' व 'सिंकिंग' फंडची सुमारे आठ ते १२ लाखापर्यंतची रक्कम या बँकेत ठेवली होती. बँकेचे विलिनीकरण झाल्याने ठेवीदारांना दिलासा मिळाल्यासारखे वाटले मात्र विलिनीकरणाचे निकष बघितल्यानंतर त्यांची घोर निराशा झाली. बँक अवसायनात गेल्यानंतर डिपॉझिट इन्शुरन्स अँड क्रेडिट गॅरेंटी कॉपोर्रेशन -
D.I.C.G.C. कडून ठेवीदारास फक्त एक लाखापर्यंतची रक्कम मिळू शकते आणि एक लाखावरील रक्कम ठेवीदाराला सोडून द्यावी लागते. वास्तविक अवसायनात गेलेल्या बँकेला DICGC कडून एक लाख मिळायला हवेत व त्यापेक्षा जास्त असलेल्या रकमेची जबाबदारी विलिनीकरण करून घेणाऱ्या बँकेची असायला हवी. मात्र विलिनीकरण करून घेणारी बँक आपला निधी ५५ टक्के देत आहे DICGC कडून फक्त ४५ टक्के रक्कम घेत आहे. त्यामुळे एक लाखापर्यंतची जबाबदारी DICGC ची असूनही ती टाळण्याचा प्रयत्न होताना दिसत आहे. जर एक लाखापर्यंतची जबाबदारी DICGC ने घेतली तर एक लाखापेक्षा जास्त रक्कम असणाऱ्या ठेवीदारांना विलिनीकरण करून घेणाऱ्या बँकेला संरक्षण देता येईल. ठेवीदारांनाही त्या रकमांवर पाणी सोडावे लागणार नाही. खरे तर बंद पडलेल्या या बँकेने बऱ्याच प्रमाणात कर्जवसुली केल्यामुळेच विलिनीकरणासाठी ती पात्र ठरली आहे. परंतु कष्टाने मिळवलेल्या रकमा ठेवीदारांनी सोडून द्याव्यात अशी व्यवस्था या विलिनीकरणात आहे. याचा अर्थ ठेवीदारांनी कोणत्याही सहकारी बँकेत एक लाखापेक्षा अधिक रक्कम ठेवू नये, अशी रिर्झव्ह बँकेची अपेक्षा आहे काय? - माधव जोशी, बोरिवली.
